BIO
Personal Profile
I am the son of an entrepreneurial dry cleaner and an elementary school librarian. After experiencing small Midwestern burgs such as Hayward, WI and Faribault, MN, my family moved to the Twin Cities where I attended a suburban high school and an urban university. Growing up in these diverse settings was a true gift; at an early age I learned the importance of engagement, a strong work ethic, the significance of inclusion, as well as the value of education.

RECOGNITION
From 2006-2015 I was the the proud leader of an outstanding Athletic Department. During the course of the 2013-2014 academic year University School of Milwaukee was honored with three prestigious awards, one national, one statewide and one local.
National: Coach and AD Magazine named USM a Program of Excellence Honoree. This accolade is given to the nation’s best athletic programs for their off-the-field achievements.
State: WSN Cup Winner. The Wisconsin Sports Network Cup recognizes schools that provide and achieve success in many of the WIAA sponsored sports. The award totals points earned in both boy's and girl's sports.
Local: USM has been named among the JS Schools of the Year! This honor, established by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is determined by a point system based on a school's performance in WIAA tournaments.
HOW I SPENT MY SUMMER VACATION
I can't think of a better way to spend my summer than to experience the excitement that goes along with the construction of a multi-million dollar athletic complex! Everyday was like my birthday; I came to work and there was a new piece of equipment or a delivery from a vendor all waiting for me.

The scope of my "vacation" was pretty straight forward... Put a shovel in the ground the day after Memorial Day, resurface two playing fields with synthetic turf, add an irrigation system to a third field, and install scoreboards on all three. As long as things are torn up, upgrade the current athletic space with new security fence, a new stadium, and a new press box. Let's make sure to upgrade jumping pits and to add a bunch of great signage too. Oh, get it all done by Labor Day!

"Create good people, the rest follows."
-Walt Whitman

From my perspective this simple adage identifies the role athletics play in our curriculum. As coaches, administrators and educators, we hope to instill in our students the desire to act with character, not because they believe it is expected but because they believe it is right.
